To better understand regulatory framework and prepare for potential environmental health and safety issues, ALC Environmental offers several training courses in various disciplines including lead, asbestos, mold, and OSHA training.

These course include:

Lead Awareness

• LS 600: Lead Safe Work Practices (8 hours) - This course is designed primarily for maintenance personnel and other individuals who perform repairs in residential dwelling units (more than 2 square feet, but less than 100 square feet.) In addition, housing owners, managers and administrators are urged to take this course.  The course teaches the proper procedures to reduce the risk associated with lead-based paint while performing routine maintenance and repair tasks
• LS 601: Lead Safe Work Practice Awareness (3 hours) - This course is designed primarily for owners, managers, and other housing professionals who do not perform repairs to residential dwelling units. In addition administrators are urged to take this course.  The course teaches the proper procedures that should be utilized to reduce the risk associated with lead-based paint while performing routine maintenance and repair tasks.
• LS 606: HUD Lead-Based Paint Training for Remodelers and Renovators (6.5 hours)  AIA CES Approved - This course is designed to teach safe work practices to renovators, remodelers, painters, carpenters and those who regularly disturb lead-based paint. The course provides information on containment, minimization and cleanup of lead hazards.  Participants who successfully complete the course and pass the examination are issued a certificate of course completion by the training provider.
• LS 607 : Visual Assessment (3.5 hours) - This course is designed primarily for owners, managers, and other housing professionals who do not perform repairs to residential dwelling units. In addition, administrators are urged to take this course.

NYC Local Law #1 Training

• LS 608 : Lead Paint Exemption & Compliance with Local Law 1 (2 hours) AIA CES Approved - This course is designed to show property owners how XRF testing can be utilized to gain exemption from their obligation under Local Law 1 of 2004.  We will discuss the impact of Title 10 and OSHA regulations on lead testing..

Asbestos awareness

• AS 175: Asbestos Awareness (2 hours) AIA CES Approved- This session will briefly discuss the history and uses of asbestos through the years, as well as the health effects associated with asbestos exposure.  It will demonstrate where asbestos is commonly found in buildings and how to identify and manage asbestos hazards.  The course will detail the federal and city laws that regulate asbestos in buildings.
• AS 275: Asbestos Awareness for General Industry (2-8 hours) - OSHA 1910.1001 requires employers to develop a training program for all employees who are exposed to airborne concentrations of asbestos at or above the Permissable Exposure Limit (PEL) and/or Excursion Limit (EL).  Training must be provided prior to or at the time of initial assignment and at least yearly thereafter.  The training program must inform employees about ways in which they can safeguard their health.
  In addition, employers must provide an awareness-training course for employees who do housekeeping operations in facilities where asbestos-containing materials or presumed asbestos-containing materials are present.  The elements of the course must include the health effects of asbestos; locations, signs of damage and deterioration of asbestos-containing materials and presumed asbestos containing materials; the proper response to fiber release episodes; and where the housekeeping requirements are found in the standard.
• NYC Title 15, Chapter- Despite the federal bans of asbestos insulation in new construction, a substantial number of buildings in New York City still contain some form of asbestos. New York City Title 15, Chapter 1 (Asbestos Control Program) provides rules and limitations for building owners and contractors that handle asbestos. As per Title 15, anyone performing renovation, alteration, or demolition of a building in NYC must:
  • Ascertain if asbestos will be disturbed by the scope of work.
  • Obtain a permit from the Buildings Departments prior to commencing the work. In order to obtain a permit, one of these two forms must be submitted to the Building Departments: a “Not an Asbestos Project Notification Form” (ACP-5); or an “Asbestos Project Notification Form” (ACP-7). ALC’s trained New York City Investigators perform asbestos surveys for architects, building owners and contractors throughout the five boroughs of New York City, to determine if asbestos containing materials will be impacted by the proposed work.

Mold

• MA 100 : Mold Awareness Training (2 hours) AIA CES Approved - With increased media attention and exposure, mold has leapt to the front of the pack of environmental issues facing building professionals today. This session will go beyond the basic science of mold and will focus on how to prevent mold from occurring and how to manage mold problems.
